I cycle, and always meant to get one of those chunky bike chains because it looks like it would be a good weapon and I'd have a legit reason for having it with me if stopped.

Carrying a knife gets you a prison sentence now so I wouldn't risk it, but something else would be a good idea for anyone going out where there is trouble. Even something like a bottle of beer has potential.
