sakuraba is a formerly great mma fighter. he's still active but he's shot now.

he was a big name in pride (the ufc of japan back in the days before they folded and got bought by dana white/ufc)

mma is fun but you have to like grappling. striking in mma is mostly ****.

i like what dana white did with the ufc.

you have to understand how bad the ufc situation was before dana took over.

it was bad.

back then i never even saw it on ppv barely. i usually had to wait for it to come out on video and i either buy a vhs tape of it or rent it at blockbuster.

After the Gracies did so well in early MMA, Sakuraba was a Japanese catch wrestler who fought them and managed to beat several members of the family.

I don't like Dana either but in terms of the fights that take place I think he and the other UFC owners have done a good job. Not perfect but pretty good.

You should look up some of the old Pride events, they had some really good cards and tournaments.

pride was good... my brother in law is a big MMA fan and he always had pride/k1 fights taped and whatnot we'd watch

since he moved i dont watch as many fights... only streams, but he would buy EVERY UFC card

to me pride was #1 and ufc was #2 back then.

that's why all the top ufc guys moved to pride back in the days.

they paid better and set up great promotions.

they had yakuza (japanese mafia) connections though and when that became public all the japanese tv networks dropped them.

only reason why they folded. damn yakuza.
