That's just HBO overrating JMM because he's a current fighter and Hamed and Barrera (to a large extent) aren't. Morales and Hamed offered him fights, regardless of what Steward says.

It's just historical revisionism. If JMM had become a bum before the first Pac fight, no one would be saying that everyone avoided him. Back when Hamed, Barrera and Morales were prime, no one really cared about JMM or rated him that highly. Yeah, he was considered the 6th best featherweight, great...

No one says 'Hamed/Barrera/Morales avoided Norwood' because no one cares about him now. But at the time he was more successful and higher rated that JMM. So were several other boxers. But most NSB posters haven't followed the sport for that long so they assume JMM was some beast back in the late 90s and everyone avoided him.
