we live in the same area , we went to schools in the same city blocks apart , we are only a year apart in age but we had different sets of friends.
mak's cousins shot at me twice. once when i was walking outside a library and the other time when i was smoking outside a pool hall.
both times they missed and hit the guy next to me.
we just know some of the same chicks. my homegirl use to sell him drugs.

machida practiced full contact karate. there's the difference.
i think machida's dad was like some grandmaster , old school karate black belt.
not one of the "go pay your tuition and get a new belt every month and be a black belt in a year" type karate.
plus he came from brazil. so he's well versed in mma and grappling.
in brazil , they had the "which style is better?" fights decades before it happened in the ufc.
when the gracies and bjj dominated early on , all the wrestlers/boxers/karate/kickboxing/capoeira guys got together to try and challenge the bjj dominance.
(in brazil back then , it was common for different schools and gyms to set up vendetta/rivalry fights all the time.)
that's why you use to see all these guys from brazil claiming the martial arts of "luta livre".
luta livre means free fighting. it was the style developed to challenge bjj in brazil. the wrestlers/boxers/kickboxers/karate/capoeira guys developed it.

it wasn't his cousins specifically but his cousins' gang.
a lot of mak's family were from , what was back then , the oldest and biggest filipino gang in los angeles.
ask him.
a lot of his family were from a filipino gang called Satanas STS. that's one of the oldest filipino gangs in los angeles. they use to be a clique of one of the oldest mexican gangs in los angeles Temple Street TST. they were originally the Pinoy Locos clique of the mexican Temple Street gang before they broke off on their own back in the 1970's. that's why they tag up STS for satanas in honor of their TST roots.
mak never joined them though.
mak hung out with Wah Ching (chinese tong/mafia originally out of San Francisco Chinatown before coming to L.A.)
wah ching was our biggest chinese rival too.
mak's family was from our biggest filipino rival and he hung out with our biggest chinese rival.

i just talk about things that i know about.
a lot of guys they want to talk all big and a lot about things they know nothing about so they look ******.
for me , if it's a topic i know nothing about , i keep my mouth shut and listen.
if it's a topic you don't know , listen to learn not talk.

i guess a lot of his friends from high school were chinese , i don't know.
though he probably hung out with them because they were balling and rolled in nice cars.
those wah ching guys were pretty ballin' back then.
when i was young they controlled a lot of the chinese neighborhoods in los angeles. san gabriel valley , chinatown , etc.
plus for a chinese gang they even had korean and vietnamese cliques to make money in korean and vietnamese neighborhoods like koreatown , cerritos , orange county , etc.
wah ching use to be big timers when i was coming up. they had a ton of money. those guys had nice ass cars and tons of guns.
me and my homeboys use to have a couple sayings about wah ching when we were young though.
"Wah Ching BMW's and Acuras can outrun our Honda's and Toyotas but they can't outrun our bullets."
or
"A cheap Asian Boys .38 that gets used is better than a nice Wah Ching 9mm in a box left at home."
