whatever i guess---bottom line is this---selena is a legend and she was taken before her time, but i believe God had a higher calling for her---i became a fan of hers last summer, or i least i thought i did---but in looking more into it, she started to mean more than that to me---she became my guardian angel---it's like God put her into my life for a reason---i was 8 when she passed away, and i watched some coverage on her passing, but i was young, i'm african american, and listened to hip hop and mainly american made music---so all i saw of her of what i can remember was her passing and the amor prohibido video---so i don't know how to explain how she came into my life last summer other than God putting here for a sign to me---she seemed, from her videos on youtube and people wo knew her, that she was down to earth, very passionate about her craft, cared so much for her fans, loved her family with all of her heart, she seemed so easy-going, and in a way, she reminded me of a cool older sister--she was a beautiful woman, with an amazing talent and gift----she was about to cross over to american mainstream music---she had tejano music in the grasp of her hands, which is why se won an tejano music award every year for years---but selena to me was put into my life for a specific reason--she was 23 when she was killed---i'm 23 years old now, and i really got into her when i just about turned 23, and my lifestyle is not too healthy---so did God put her into my life to tell me i am going to pass away 16 days before my 24th birthday like she did---or was she put into my life to help me change my drinking habits, smoking habits, popping pills habits, is she really my guardian angel like i think? i claim her as my guardian angel, but only God can really assign her that job----i have never let anyone this deep into my heart like i've done with this woman---she was so beautiful, seemed so compassionate, simplistic, and had a great sense of humor, she didn't take life so serious it seemed, and she lived life to her highest potential---and her ending was historic to say the least, and i cry watching the tribute videos people made o her and are still making--because she hit a nerve with her fans and people who came to experience her in their lives---she did with me and i have never met her---now that she is gone, and has been gone for almost 15 years from this world, her legacy will encounter another year of heatache from her family, her fans, and the woman who took her life, yolanda saldivar---selena, i love you so much, and even though i never met you in person, i miss you, but i regard you as my guardian angel, and i thank God for you, and your family i'm sure loves you so so much and misses you so so much, and they think about you everyday, and they can't wait to see you in the afterlife---i pray you look over them, your fans, and me to help us see the light----i'm sorry what happened to you---that's not how a person should be taken out---you deserved to pass away at an old age, peacefully--you earned that imo---i love you la reina del tex mex---and thank you God for putting her into my life and my soul and my heart---may you always rest in peace selena quintanilla perez---my hero, my angel---my heart--i'll see you soon---

No. I strongly dis-like people with Mexican roots who dont give 2 ****s about Mexicans until they see $ in them.

Even modern singers try to copy her. Truly an iconic figure. RIP

c'mon, both of her parents are chicanos...it ain't her fault that her first language was english, when she moved to corpus christi is when she got into tejano (during her teens) and after that it's history.

i'm pretty sure she was proud of her mexican ancestry.
