Watching DMX's Drink Champs and N.O.R.E. (who got MAJOR fat...he better be careful) talking to X reminded me of just who all was dropping hits at that time.
DMX
Silkk
Cam'ron
Big Pun
Kurupt
Canibus
Not mentioned (the so-called 'mainstream side'):
Jay-Z
Cardan
Richie Rich
Ludacris
Fabolous
Nas
Ja Rule
DJ Quik
I had forgotten just how rich that era was - basically from...what...1995 to 2000 or so?
Rappers today sell a lot but that's because music tastes have gone down hill. No longer is it about properly telling a story or even just having fun with it (Quik); it's about mumble rap.
