But he wasn't looked at as a top notch lyricist because in his era all the MCs getting props for their lyrics were mostly East Coast Nas, BIG, Az, Black Thought, Redman and so on. The West ( even though from Philly he's Death Rown and West Coast affiliated ) rarely got as much props

And he was never really a Superstar because when Death Rown was at its peak even though Dogg Food was a sick album it still had to play second fiddle to Doggystyle, The Chronic, All eyes on me all classic groundbreaking albums plus he was in a group so he never really became a superstar

It's like being the 4th best / popular Wu-Tang member. Your dope but probably won't get the recognition they deserve. But Kurupts the man, he has a lot of classics
