Lil Wayne, Jay Z and all those rappers and hip hoppers from today.

When I saw Lil Wayne rapping next to Floyd when he made his ring entrance I thought I never heard anything like that. That sounded like complete g****age to me. Here is my thing: I like one song of Lil Wayne which is "Drop the World" and I think the song is good, deep, just a really good song. So I listened to a few other songs of him and didn't like none of it.

Then I thought of Jay Z and there is also one song of him I really found very good: Numb (Encore) which is actually a Linkin Park song if I am not mistaken. I checked out quite a few other Jay Z songs and thought they were all horrible. I mean, it is just my opinion and I know Jay Z is super rich and there are millions who think his songs are awesome.
Is it possible that young people are so much influenced by the music they hear in their youth and they are exposed to the same music and when they listen to it long enough they sing it's cool? Because I don't understand how so many rap songs are really bad (in my opinion) and still millions of teenagers buy that stuff.

I think the music industry influences the music taste of young people. They play certain rap songs on MTV, the radio etc and those young people are programmed to think this is good music.

    Your thoughts?

Jay Z is not a rapper from today.

When he first arrived on the scene, he rapped about crime, drugs and the hardships of growing up in the hood.

The more successful he got, the more he changed as a person. He's a hugely successful businessman and a family man. He's not going to putting out the same stuff he first started out with.

The same with the likes of Nas, Ice Cube, Eminem etc... Just look at the change over the years the more successful the artist becomes.

I don't even think this replies into the point you were trying to make.

Also, the fact that you thought Jay Z's best track was a collaboration track of remixes he did with Linkin Park shows just how much you know about Hip Hop and it's artists. I'm not even a fan of Jay, but i respect what he does.

As for Lil Wayne, i don't care for him or his music.

I was in my teens in the 90s so I grew up listening to Eminem and 2pac basically (and lots of other great bands like Pearl Jam, RATM etc), and I do know Jay Z produces music since decades. All I am saying is I went on youtube and listened to the Jay Z songs and Lil Wayne songs with the most views and I thought they were all....you know what.

So - Yes, I do not know all songs of them, but I checked out the most popular ones and I disliked them bigtime. Eminem was big when I was a teenager which is over 15 years ago so I do know what I am talking about but yes, I do not listen to Nas and all those other rappers, actually I don't know a lot of them. But I checked out songs of 2 of the biggest names (Jay Z,Lil Wayne) and I liked none of it except the 2 songs I mentioned.

The artists are not selling millions because they are neccasarily good. They sell, because they have huge fanbases.

They've become popular through whatever genre they've put out there, and many make it big through hype or because 'they're the next big thing'. Nothing to actually do with talent.

That's how the Bieber's, Minaj's etc... sell millions even when they put out complete tosh.

Yep when that ****in little hobgoblin was screaming into the mic like so demented f@cktard i wondered what the hell was happening to music and why the hell would you have that as a boxing entrance..

Jesus Floyd.. coming out to Beiber singing baby would have been better then that tosh

Kid Cudi was the last newer artist I liked, and before that I can't even remember.

Ive basically turned to dubstep, because it's something new, and interesting to listen to. Bassnectar, Liquid Stranger, Skrillex are all the ****. Dubstep is the type of **** you can't fake talent with either.

Agree about Lil Goblin and his song 'Drop The World.' Beyond that we're talking about everything in popular culture. One word: garbage.
