The definition of a conscious rapper probably varys from one person to the next, and their are rappers that do different styles like 2pac and Nas. I consider Nas more of a conscious rapper then a gangster rapper, for every shoot em up he probably has 2 what goes around (stillmatic), dance (God's Son) type of songs..the ratio is probably even higher then that. Now that I think about it, Nas really isnt a gangster rapper to me...Hes much more of a conscious rapper.

Conscious rap can be political, it has to have some kind of message that is usually positive, deep, analytical..or something like that.

I used to listen to alotta conscious rappers when i was in high school, for some reason i moved away from it for the most part although i still listen to some...Im gonna post my favorite list because i got no business posting a list of the greatest conscious rappers

Also, can the argument be made that Joe Budden has become more of a conscious rapper over the last 3 or 4 years?

Some might not consider Cormega to be your tradition conscious rapper but hes made alotta deep songs with some kind of message in them, usually about trust, betrayal, and other morals.

2pac's conscious rap is the only thing that keeps me from saying, **** 2PAC
Nas is a conscious rapper, not gangts at all, dude is a known nerd in QB, always has been, when he came out people used to get him mixed up with Tragedy due to his conscious yet gangsta style, only difference is Tragedy is actually a True G, Nas is an actor.
