Illmatic vs. It Was Written

Which album is better? Is there a debate? On Illmatic its just straight lyrical fire from the outset. It Was Written took a different approach. It definitely had a more mafiaso type vibe and Nas approached this album differently lyrically than Illmatic.

I've seen a a lot of people label It Was Written as a disappointment but I'd definitley have to disagree.

It Was Written is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Track #2,4,6,8,12,14 are great tracks. The rest are still very good tracks, I listen to the entire album the whole way through without skipping.

Illmatic is probably the GOAT and I enjoy it a lot, but I ****s with It Was Written more. **** is just fly.

It Was Written is a solid effort, but nowhere in the same ballpark

It Was Written is a 5 mic album to me, there's not a bad thing about it in my opinion.

But Illmatic is pure greatness. The greatest hip hop album of all time and my favourite album from any genre of all time. A genius piece of work.

Curious here.. How did he redefine hiphop with Illmatic? If I'm not mistaken it didn't even sell to well when it was first released.. Being outshined by the other great 90's rappers.
