What Group of MC's Truly Put Out Great Albums

Challenge themselves each time they get into the studio and come out with material that helps shape a time period and can be listened to over time. With all this talk of guys who can't make albums.. who truly has been making great albums?

    Jay-Z
    Kanye West
Outkast (although I didnt like Idlewild that much)
    Lupe Fiasco
    UGK (RIP Pimp C)

I like that list. But I would add in Nas. He's always dropped quality albums. Throw in Redman and Ice Cube.

The newer artists I have to throw in Game and Jeezy.

I have to disagree with Kanye because of the last album and Jeezy and Game

I'm having trouble thinking of a rapper who put out a 4-mic or so album every time out. Ice Cube's last few have been weak; Eminem's last album wasn't so good, I haven't thought Nas's last 2 were great though they had some scattered good singles, Lupe's only dropped two albums - I would think you need at least 3 to qualify (otherwise Dr. Dre, Cage, Biggie would be on there)

I can only think of 4 'definites'

Pac's pre-death studio albums were all good
Jay-Z (Kingdom Come is still better than most rappers' best albums)
Outkast (unless you count Idlewild as an album instead of a soundtrack)
      A Tribe Called Quest

It's really hard to put out a very good album every time out

        Little Brother
        Ghostface

oh so we're suppose to have our own lists...i thought we were just throwing names out there...MY B!

        so adding to mine is

        Outkast
        A Tribe Called Quest
        K-Os (DON'T SLEEP)
        OneManArmy/OneBeLo
and i'm going to say The GZA as well. maybe i didn't love pro-tools as much but that's just because of the production. lyrically he is ALWAYS on point. and ps Beneath The Surface is mad slept on and im throwing it in the slept on thread!

Pharoahe Monch (3 CLASSIC, groundbreaking albums in the duo "Organized Konfusion", two excellent solo albums with a 9 year gap in between)

Outkast (Idlewild was dope... the only one I didn't really like was Speakerboxx/Love Below, and even that had some good stuff)

Ghostface Killah, to an extent... his "weaker" albums have been considerably better than the weaker albums of other Wu members

Common would be on the list if not for Universal Mind Control (Electric Circus was awesome)

That's a good pick I forgot about them...

I think Kanye has to qualify Neils.. I liked his last album, I was a rare one who did I guess but I took it for more of a pop type dark record then a hip hop. But besdies that College Dropout, Late Reg and Graduation are all such top notch production quality albums and his rhyming really is underrated. I think he always has been there musically and his next hip hop effort will continue the trend.

The Roots immediately sprang to mind. As did GangStarr and OutKast.
