I've never been big on AZ truthfully. Do or Die is good though.

I must have...so which recent albums would you say are "classics"? Since 2003 lets say...

      i agree completely
i thought AWOL was a mild form of junk, considering all that AZ has proven himself to be capable of. it is by no means a classic, in my opinion. it had a very commercial sound to me.
Harsh. The album was very lyrically on point, featured excellent production and solid guest spots. It wasn't overly long either....little to no filler.

      So Sincere
      Can't Stop
      New York
      Never Change
      Street Life
      The Come Up
      Magic Hour
      City of Gods

      All fire.

        .
        By my standard,

nothing impresses me to the point where I can put anything in the ranks of those I already listed.

By your standard, I couldn't really say.

But then again, Hiphop music as a whole doesn't really hit me the way it used to because I've lived through so much of it. Combine that with the way the landscape has changed throughout the last 20 years, well, I don't think I could really say because of the regional divide.

Hiphop classics from back then, punched right through regional areas. Today, its all about what regional sound you carry and what style you're on.

What I listed, bumped from coast to coast regardless of where it came from.

I don't see Hiphop like that anymore.

The only album that was well recieved from here to there and everywhere was GRODT, but, again, the landscape from when that album dropped was vastly different from the era I listed so opinions about that are going to vary.

I could easily say The Psycho Realm debut album from 1997 is a classic, but not many here have even heard it, much less know who The Pyscho Realm is. Evidences Weatherman LP was extremely dope in its own right, but how many people have heard it, or even be willing to accept it? J Zones "Pimps Don't Pay Taxes" would qualify to me as classic, but again, what impact does it have on Hiphop as a whole?

The point is, there are alot of dudes making great albums, but that doesn't make it classic. I simply don't believe Hiphop can have another classic due to the factors I've already mentioned. Imo, there has to be some type of impact on the culture, a wide spread knowledge of who the artist even is, and a timeless, original quality to it.

Interesting. You certainly hold the word to a much higher standard than many in the younger (my) generation do.

In this case, yeah, we may no longer see classic albums. The latest, greatest original act to come along was Eminem, but I doubt a single unifying and unique act like him will come around again. At least not one which has a significant impact on the genre...not for a very long time. Who knows, I could be wrong about that. The Marshall Mathers LP certainly fit the bill.
