hes saying that the drug game was taking control of his life more and more, and it go to the point where he was leaving his family behind. capt. obvious I know, but i think some people don't actually think about lyrics. they just listen. the way jay spit these lyrics with the flow/delivery, it was classic.

That 4 bars just sticks with me. How Jay's just speaking on how he came up and started moving drugs, and I love how he just reverts back to rap by going "by the way, I can rap".
Also, when he says "96 came, ni99as I'm here...goodbye..." gives me chills each time I hear it. He says 96 was when he really came into the rap game, since he's going through his story, then he reverts right back to the present on The Black Album by saying goodbye. Just a great line.Comment
