Content rap and Hip Hop revival

What i have noticed in modern hip hop is that there is alot of new music that is popular but very few new artists that people are really passionate about on a national level. Music is popular now because people can dance to it not because the lyrics really hit people and so consequently the sense of devotion to individual artists is not high. Now I am talking about on a national level, I know that people from the south are passionate about southern artists and people from other localities are passionate about their artists. However you don't see the sense of heartfelt national devotion to single artists that you did in the era of 2 pac Biggie or even Nas. People outside of the South for the most part like Jeezy because he makes them dance (especially in the suburban mainstream where 70% of rap is purchased. Those kids don't see any of these modern rappers the way they saw 2pac in the mid 90's or Jay Z later on). I believe there will be a revival in rap when "Content rap" comes back. So here is the question. Who do you predict is going to bring content rap back. Is the South going to take advantage of it's visibility and start to get deeper? Is the Eastcoast going to make a comeback with some groundbreaking newcomer? is the West Coast going to end it's slump and do the job. Who do you predict will change this?

Lupe Fiasco is getting really popular so maybe he might. But whatever the case is in the mainstream there is always going to be club hits that's just the way it goes and I don't see that ever changing really. Because people want to party and just listen to music to vibe to. But some artist do good with making a club song and still making a good album. I don't think content is dead you just have to listen to rappers who are those type of rappers. But I wouldn't expect to listen to an artist for content when that's not his style. I mean I like Jeezy and I'm not from the suburbs. I like his music because his albums have great production. And he'll say some funny **** that has me rollin. I like his adlibs and his hooks and some of his lyrics are good. He's just a real simple rapper, it's nothin wrong with it.

Yes there will always be Club hits it's just that they seem to overshadow everything else in this era. People are saying that Hip Hop is just as healthy as it ever was but i am thinking about the fact that in both the east Coast and the West coast reigns, figures were impotant. I named some on the east coast. On the West Coast it was ofcourse Dr Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube. etc. In this era actual figures and a real passion for figures seems missing. New acts just keep rising, they make dance hits, and people dance to them untill the next dance hit maker comes. There are no compelling figures in this reign or era as there were in past eras. Ofcourse in comparing Snoop and Nas I am not comparing morality or anything I am just saying that it was the content that attracted people. Once we start listening to songs again (for their content) we can discuss what the exact content should be. Oh and I know that there are different things out there i was just talking about the dominant trends.
