    Not true at all.

If you are from the West Coast you likely wont give Pun his props. I noticed that Pun's excellence as an mc is mainly appreciated on the East.

Thats fine to like Rakim more, I aint knockin ya, hes the man. Just pointing out that alot of people outside of the East Coast (particularly NY/NJ area) havent had the exposure to Pun and don't know about his skills like they should.

The man is definitely an all time great MC/lyricist. Thats all.

To the dumb ****s that can't read the title of the thread, it says who has the better rap style....not who's the better lyricist....

Even though Ra is the G.O.A.T......his flow was a lil boring....
Word. I can upload alot of unreleased/underground Pun tracks that you probably never heard.

His clever punchlines actually far surpass Rakim's. Lyrically Pun can be considered top 3 to do it, the wit in his lyrics was genius and exceptional.
My badddd, If we're talkin style/delivery like the topic suggests i'd say Pun....

If we're talkin lyrics.. then no way jose!!! Pun dont com close to RAKIM.... Lyrically only BIG, Nas & maybe tupac are in the same boat as RA.

i guess we'll just have to agree to disagree!!!!

Rakim is one of my favorites. But he never said some said some ultra witty, metaphorical stuff that made you rewind a couple of times before you understood it. He just had an uncanny knack for a smooth ass flow matched with on point timing and rhyming ability. He was a natural, plain and simple.

But Pun said some mind blowing things. If you read their rhymes on paper, Pun's would actually come out to be much more complex.

Well Rakim did not have witty punchlines, his punchlines were more like Nas' punchlines. The thing is alot of Rakim's lyrics don't make you think, they just fly right over your head. Here is an example. How are the three lines i have in bold here related? Think about the first line i have in bold, it sets the context for the other two (and for many other lines in the verse as well) Rakim never leaves an idea behind, he always comes back for it. And the three lines i put in bold are just one example in this verse.

                  , ,
Just when things seemed the same, and the whole scene is lame

They strain to sling slang, I'm trained to bring game
History that I arranged been regained by King James

No time to sip Mo's with hostess, never mind what the total gross is
I rip shows, stay focused, and split cheese, with soldiers
While you hit trees and coast I spit flows that be ferocious
And with these explosives, I split seas for Moses
Shine permanently only my mind's concernin me
Fire burns in me eternally time's eternity

From the mind which is one of Allah's best designs
And mines'll stand the test of time, when I rhyme

Yea Ra would slip in some ill ****. His references were subtle.

This verse is one of my favorites:

Rakim and Primo, yo I got what you need bro
You go see a show, smoke an El Nino
And deejays play hits with hard bass kicks
And then they display tricks like The Matrix
Make the record fly undetected by the naked eye
So just feel the vibe 'cause your ears never lie
Nowadays deejays bags of tricks, graphic
On some behind the back ****, catch it and scratch it
Classic, this kid got his craft mastered
Hands is mad quick like he mix withmagic
Spin it back and forth and grab it, and know just where it
                    is...
                    There it is
