I only deal in old-school and non-commercial rap..... the shiat on the radio gets on my nerves after a while, then I have to just put on Method Man and cleanse my soul ....... rap, but comedy at the same time.

TY for this thread, I am now going through all my favourite rappers.......
Method and Redman, Eminem come out on top for me though, as their rap is comedy and funny, whereas commercial rap is just that, commercial..... and formulaic.

Is the best pure hardcore rap ever. That mixtape era was PHENOMENAL.
I still bump that **** today, absolutely nothing like it.
Imo, they were the PEAK of gangsta rap.
Rap music went pop/soft right after that, transitioning through Lil Wayne, whom is a top 10 rapper in my book I might add.

Kind of sucks sober.
Felt bad typing that
And from a technical standpoint, Eminem even nearing 50 (incredible when you think about it) is still amazing. In fact in terms of just pure technical skill when it comes to rhyming and rhyme schemes he's actually better than ever. He can still rhyme on a level that very few can reach.
That said, I agree, even despite the sheer technical wizardry and rhyme acrobatics he still displays on a sick level, there's very little substance to his music today.
When he released the Marshall Mathers LP he was ferociously hungry, and you could feel it through the speakers. Now he's a ****** rich 48 year old who just raps for the sport of it, and it's gotten boring. Not to mention his whole pissed off at the world rebellious thing from him is long played out and quite frankly is just weird coming from a guy on the doorstep of being 50 years old.
I was a huge Stan growing up and I am still blown away by his legendary career -- his list of accolades are crazy and the fact that nearly a quarter century after he broke through the guy is still putting out best selling albums is just mind boggling, but I would agree with you that from a substance standpoint, Em offers pretty much none of that anymore.
