Three LAPD officers face felony charges for falsely labeling people as gang members

Ain't nothing new, lapd crash use to that crap all the time back in the 90s.

They see new faces, they take out the cameras and take a pic.

Even if you deny your membership, they'll write you down as whoever you are with or what area you're in.

    They'll even make up nicknames.

Then if you ever get caught for something, they'll testify in court with false or incorrect info.

Truth be told moves like that actually hurt the gang units. The gang units are there to document and monitor gang members and gangs in general. The form the cops filled out when they interview a person is called a "F.I. card" or field Interview card.

But the cops didn't make someone a gang member by marking them as one on an FI card.

The problem (for the cops) is the FI is an official police document. Falsifying an official police document is a crime.

I have stopped people 20-30 times, that I believed were gang members but they always denied it. But if they were with the same gang members and it was documented legal with photos gang members could be labeled a gang associate in a court of law. This usually happened during a high profile crime or murder case. But happened with gang detectives and the police officers who are court qualified gang experts.

As somebody who lives on Tuas couch, I can vouch for this.

I remember this time I got pulled over when I was 16. Cop ran my info then got to asking all kinds of questions regarding gangs. Never joined a gang myself but hung out with a lot of gang members. Cop was asking to see my arms for tattoos and bringing up names I supposedly went by while in this gang. Come to find out the cop that used to be at our school years ago put all kinds of information into their database about gang members. And since I hung around a lot of them he put a file of me in there as well. I had a good laugh at that.
