That seems like a fairly obvious answer.

Nobody is looking forward to the next few centuries, not even the people "taking over".

Far-Eastern cultures place a great emphasis on lineage and the worship of ancestors & descendants; your physical body may die, but a young version of you will be there to experience the year 3,000. Death isn't so bad looking at it that way. It's just a tired body handing the world to a young body.

Western existentialism dealt more directly with the afterlife, so there was less emphasis on lineage and nation, more emphasis on virtuous sacrifice and earning your place in heaven.

That left the Western brain in a very painful spot when popular science began butting heads with religion.

If you don't believe in an afterlife AND you live in a decadent Western country where everything you hold sacred is torn down and smeared in **** and you know you'll have absolutely no resemblance to nor connection with your grandchildren... Death is effort towards nothingness.

You subconsciously realize that every day is just a painful effort to be one day closer to absolute nothingness, and that nothing you do nor say matters. You could win the lottery or walk outside naked and become homeless. Since it's all just a march towards nothingness, the difference seems trivial.

I suppose that's where drugs, radicalism and an "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" mentality sets in.
People do not fear the end or "nothingness" like you claim.

I am an atheist and know for certain I will die and then be nothing just like the billions of humans before me.

I get out of life great joy. TV, movies, games, art, music :3some:

All of the above can make me cry or make me laugh....

You sound really absolute in your beliefs, and that is sad.

Simple. It is because nobody living has ever experienced death. We tend to fear the unknown, especially something as final as death

          Nah it’s the opposite.

We fear death because we all know exactly what takes place.

We are just consciously in denial about it amongst each other, for the most part.

I guess it’s part of the “coping with reality” methods we’ve been accustomed to.
