I think you can without restrictions but I have heard it's a bad idea because a lot of homes are already vacant and you have an aging population.

I suppose it's better if you live there but then you gotta get the visa stuff sorted.

Japan in some ways seems better than other Asian countries where you can't own land in your own name though plenty of downsides to that set up too.

Some places even if you have money, you legally can't own land or houses.
I've seen some people make ****** decisions because of love and the inability to find a translator to actually read the legal docs or consult with an attorney where they technically weren't the real owner.

Yes, this happens... people come outta the wood works to claim property when it is being developed.
