Fao: catholics and christians, what does " the ends of the earth" mean?

So I was reading proverbs chapter 30 verse 4.... and I noticed there was a line about the "ends of the earth"

This confused me so I googled it, and it brought me to another verse in isiah with a line about "the four corners Of the earth"

Can any of you explain this? Because it sounds like whoever wrote the bible didnt know that the earth was round.

I even assumed it might be a translation error so I check different translations and they all say "ends of the earth"

Isaiah 40:22 refers to the earth as a circle. I think the four corners is just a description to say the entire world, like the furtherst you can go in the four directions north, south, east, west.

Good to see you're reading and thinking about the scriptures.

It was a figure of speech in those days and still a figure of speech to this day. People back then didn't know for sure the earth was round, although the idea was prevalent among greek philosophers and scientists as well as ancient babylonians.

In context, it doesnt make sense.

Who has ascended to heaven and then descended?

Who has gathered the wind in the palms of both hands?

Who has wrapped up the waters in his garment?

Who has established all the ends of the earth?

What is his name and the name of his son—if you know?

The earth has no ends because it's a sphere... it sounds like whoever wrote that didnt know the earth was a sphere.
