I'm not really hopeful that it will be any good.

The books were fun to begin with, but turned into a chore to read - at least until Brandon Sanderson took over. They became less epic and more just bloated.

Plus the characters were constrained by the style at the time (which also appeared across a lot of media) where the male characters are all incompetent and socially awkward, and the female characters are all clever and in control. It was a popular theme at the time, and it has aged horribly - I know it ended up making the David Eddings books unreadable (another similar author).

I don't think that kind of thing has aged well, but with Jordan dead, perhaps they can rewrite the screenplays with a bit more depth and maturity to the characters. There is more than enough material there for some good stories, but the editing will need to be savage.

Yeah, some of the authors of the time were pretty ham-fisted about it as well.

David Eddings, in particular, was bad and just got worse. As his books progressed, they turned from decent (if light) epic fantasy and more and more into feminist fantasy.
I think it was his fourth series where it had got so bad, that one of the first major characters that appeared was - I kid you not - a talking pink dolphin.
Then he revealed that his wife was actually co-writing his books, and it all made sense. It was cuckold authoring.

Robert Jordan did the same kind of thing, if not to the same degree. I don't think there is the appetite or tolerance for that kind of thing so much anymore.
