Family That F#cked Up, Cut Them Loose or Be There For Them?

Recently found out my lil cousin is doing a 9 to 30 year bid. Was pretty saddened & disappointed by this as I was really close to him when he was younger & through his talent in athletics I thought he was gonna have a lot of doors opened for him not be in a f#cked up situation like he's in.

This is easily the closest I've been to a person locked up for a serious crime. Known plenty of people who've been locked up for smaller sh^t or that I wasn't THAT close to, but this one feels almost like a scar on me cuz I had influence with this kid at one time.

Anyway kinda conflicted on if I should regain contact with him & try to be a positive force in his life in any way I could from a distance (he's locked up in MI, I'm in NV) or should I just let things play out as is?

How do you deal with family you were close to who messed up in a major way?

    9-30? Jesus that’s a ****ed up term.

And it depends on the crime. I’ve had family go in for robbery and we still talk, and I’ve had a cousin go in for ***ual assault and I’ve never spoken to him since.

and that’s what’s ****ed up with athletics, never have a backup plan, dudes expecting to get it made and when they don’t...

I'd like to be the ''forgive the sinner but not the sin'' type......It matters on how serious the crime was. Murder, ****, kidnapping, ********* threats......I hope that relative burns in hell.

Other than the heavy felonies, I can forgive.

Dude's life is ruined and he's facing a hellish future. Have pity on him and remain in contact, try to uplift him. It'll mean a lot to him and might help you become a better person in the process.

Be there for him, forgive the sinner, don't forget the sin.

I feel you a lot its bull**** and kids get caught up in the system and have no way out but illegal shat. My boy Richie made it out and had a whole doc on cnn about how masculinity is hurting young men.

Weed is definitely forgivable. Can’t believe they actually lock people up over it.

... In case you still feel that you are "close to him" you should try to do something... but in case you don't feel that anymore, well...

                    what did he do?

and what has he done that hasn't landed him in prison for 20 years? couldbe his 3rd time selling weed in some states. he could have

if he's truly a scumbag you have no obligation to be in his life, and you can be happy he's out of yours. if he's salvageable you could write him a letter and decide for yourself.
