Why are sports cars legal or needed by ordinary citizens?

I mean the speed limit is under 85mph in 99.9% of the USA, but these cars can go over 155 mph. So i'm not anti-fast but still dont understand why we need sports car or it's legal.

I've always wondered why cars go like 150+, but the speed limit is 80ish or w/e max. In the US anyway idk about elsewhere. I LEGIT think they should make cars max out at w/e the speed limit is. Probably prevent a lot of car accidents & lessen the severe injuries in those accidents.

I guess if not for speeding governments would be losing maybe a billion or two dollars or some insane amount of money on speeding tickets.

But it can be argued that some people will do drag racing and on-track racing. So the car is able to go above the speed limit for off-road racing.
