I myself have mixed feelings about this sort of thing.

As far as other people... I think it's not generally seen as racist because the purpose is to help support a group of people who are not ahead of others. I imagine if Black businesses were currently significantly more successful than White/Asian/Latino businesses, and especially if this were seen by the public as having been caused by historical concerted efforts to favor Black people over White/Asian/Latino people, then most people would see this app as racist.

I don't see that anywhere in there either

I think it's just to make them aware of black owned businesses in the area. Black people talk a big game about how to help other Black people bridge the gap in wealth etc when the most obvious thing for them to do would be to directly support their business endeavors. This could be a tool to help facilitate that.

But I don't think the intention was to go out of one's way to boycott White businesses, as War Mikey is implying.

i'd love to watch how this unfolds knowing it will be a failure just like his mtv show way back called Making The Band. such an epic fail.

Nah, i have no issue with blacks trying to help self-empower, and promote other black interests.

It's not at the expense of anyone else.

Of course, I DO have an issue of how society would react if a White dude did this - he'd never hear the end of it, and be taunted and called racist for the rest of his days.

I realize this post is sarcastic but it does actually represent the divide between the typical ******* and conservative response on this.

A prototypical ******* would say that white people supporting white businesses is different because that would be going out of your way to support the group already doing the best off and the group that, at least historically, had partially achieved this advantageous position with efforts directed at putting down other groups.

A prototypical conservative would probably say that the context is unimportant and that the only way fair way to act is to make decisions in a race & historical context blind fashion. (Not to be confused with the typical White nationalist, who does not wish to act race blind.)

I'm not sure where I stand.

According to this, I'm currently in AlexKid's basement.

I figured I give him a little throwaway comment since he got banned again and is probably still reading the lounge posts.
