People like Larry join near same date as me yet that guy has near 300 rep what is the secret does a man need to get down on his knees and blow another guy off or something or does quality and contribution matter because I ain't seeing it what does Larry do to merit that?

The rep system seems broken and unfair imho.

I believe every 500 posts equals 1 rep point, than you get rep points from other posters green karma. Guys with rep points in the thousands are either admins or avid posters who were here before they restructured the points system. At least I think that's how it works. As far as Larry goes, he's been here awhile. And while he has many that don't like him, there are plenty here that have been here for years that do. Plus he has a huge post count.
