The reality is, these people were not just rounded up and forced to march. They witnessed people being tortured, and beheaded so they were paralyzed with fear.

When armed men, who have murdered others in brutal fashion, tell you to do something, you do it. If you look at the faces of the men who have been beheaded, they aren't showing fear because they know they are dead. They are literally paralyzed with horror and can't fight back, can't do anything.

Everyone is a hero in a hypothetical, when faced with the reality of these horrors, 99.999999999$ of us wouldn't do sh.it.
