Piper is the best Floyd album by far.

If I need extreme metal I can listen to Strapping Young Lad or his Ziltoid or Deconstruction albums. If I want something really mellowed out and chill that somehow blends prog, rock, blues, country and ambient electronica I can go with Ki, Ghost, or Casualties of Cool. If I want almost everything in between there's about 15 more albums to go to.

Who else can write a total chaotic mindfuck like "shitstorm" ....and then later on release something as beautiful and epic as "The Bridge"?

No one else I've ever heard. I'm not ashamed of my fanboyism in this case.

      Honerable mentions:
      Opeth
      Porcupine Tree(Steven Wilson)
      Pink Floyd
      Led Zeppelin
      Ulver
damn, he has some amazing fcking music. im DL ****load of his stuff right now.

thanks so much for this contribution.

        You're welcome man.
Right now, I'm stuck on his newest project with Che Aimee called Casualties of Cool. It's really mellow blending rock, country, progressive, blues and electronic ambient.

His Devin Townsend Project albums are a good place to start. It's material from 2009 till now, my favorite being the "heavy" album called Deconstruction, featuring vocal appearances from a lot of different metal dudes. It's a super complex and weird nerd metal fest of an album, even though it's not everyones cup of tea.
