    Exactly this.

Being an animal lover (particularly a total f*ggot in regards to dogs), it's difficult for me to rationalize a human being eating a dog, a species that I consider of great value and worth to our own. However, being a logical human being, I also realize that my view on dogs is largely shaped by the western culture I grew up within. Had I been raised within another country with a completely different culture (like India) I'd not only have an entirely different view on dogs but I'd also find some of the **** I eat now (like cows) to be immoral and/or abhorrent.

And that's just touching on the cultural side of things. The other side of that coin involves hunger - It's easy to pick and choose what is and isn't an acceptable form of sustenance when you live in a society where you have such luxuries. Most are not that lucky.

It's their culture. Japanese eat whales. There is cannibalism in parts of Africa. Cows are revered in India, while they are butchered here in America.

Not sure how this affects YOU or me.

Still, we in America obviosly view dogs differently than other cultures. In some cultures, dogs are viewed as nothing more than food, in others dirty animals that they would never allow into thier homes.

This is why I also have no moral objective to dog fighting as well.
        Wow. Really?

There's a huge difference between eating a dog for nutrients and training them to fight to the death in an arena for your own sick pleasure. That goes for any animal too, not just dogs.

Anybody who doesn't object to the latter is an absolute piece of ****, IMO.

This right here. There is absolutely no way to justify the slaughter of one animal and condemn it for another. Either eating Pigs and Dogs are both ok or they're both wrong. There's no in-between because you would just be a hypocrite.

If you've ever eaten a cow or a pig then what right do you have to say eating dogs is wrong.

Not that I would ever eat a dog. I've had some good dogs and I would never eat any out of respect for the species.

We look at it differently here in the states obviously, as the dog (man's BFF) has been a companion mainstay in our culture. But as said already in the thread -- different cultures. What's the culture that eats monkey brains straight out of their skulls? Horses are also eaten elsewhere in the world like we eat beef. We eat a lot of pig here, whereas some other parts of the world consider pig as bad as we would perceive eating a sewer rat.

Different strokes for different folks and all that stuff.

Ojala por lo menos empatemos, pero yo creo K México va a jugar por la victoria.

Saw it on National Geographic. I think it was that "Taboo" show.

I've had dog before in Seoul.

And it's not true that dogs are 'seen as food' in 'East Asia'.

There are some countries in which dog is eaten as food, such as China. Dogs are also pets. And the dogs that are used for meat are particular breads, and are raised for meat.
