Kubrick isn't a bad director, but is given more credit than deserved, because he never came up with his own ideas.

The Shining was written by Stephen King, and 2001: A Space Odyssey was by Arthur C Clarke. Humphrey Cobb wrote Paths of Glory and Howard Fast wrote Spartacus.

The director of a movie isn't the only person responsible for making it.

Many movies are not based on original screenplays, but on a book someone else has written. The producer is the director's boss, and usually has the final say on everything. The screenwriter puts the words into the actors mouths. The cinematographer decided on how it is to be filmed (camera angles, etc).
LOL you realize Taxi Driver was written by Paul Schrader. Aviator by John Logan. Goodfellas based on a book. Raging Bull based on book. Casino based on book. Gangs of New York written by Jay ****s. Etc etc etc

Further, Kubrick films are uniquely his own. The Shining is completely different than King's book (thus why King was always so angry and made his own ****ty TV version).

The other thing is there isn't much variation in Scorsese films. He's great at gangster movies, outside of that he's just OK. Kubrick made great films in all genres.

        Godamn....

This is a tough one. I don't think it's fair to put these two together though. Kubrick and Scorsese are just so different.

Kubrick ***s your head completely up, while Scorsese takes you on story like no other.

One is more about ideas, the other more about life...
It's more difficult to make lively movies...

Horrible comparison. Kubrick is Robinson....Scorsese is Ali.

Scorsese has done different with a lot of success. Gangster, black comedy, religios films, psychological, Sports, biopics, fantasy, etc.

Its not as if Scorsese cant make other types of films.

Like what exactly? His best films are by far his gangster movies, outside of that nothing really great. Maybe Cape Fear? What religious films has he made? Last Temptation of Christ? That's a great film?

Of course he can make other kind of films my point is they aren't great. Kubrick on the other hand made great movies in every genre.
