there's a moon circling saturn that has massive tides. "titan" is the name. there's possibly liquid methane, liquid water, hidden under the ice. who knows what is down there where the temperature is high enough for water to remain unfrozen.

mars likewise has polar ice caps. we don't know enough abtou the geology of the planet to know if it is still warm near the core, but we know that it used to be. mars almost surely had flowing water at one stage or another. the topography suggests that.

luckily for all you foreigners, big boy america is on that sh#T. we'll have plenty of answers before NE kicks the bucket. you're welcome.

What are the chances that a non organic, non sentient form of matter would somehow develop thought, awareness and conciousness? What would be the reason?
Thats sounds very similar to a quote from someone else. I forget who.
But why ask about reason? That sounds like a philosophical question about meaning and purpose, which isnt what the threads about.

As far as asking what are the chances of life coming from non-organic matter...well, how else could it happen?

Against all concievable odds, it happened once, on this infinitesimal rock in endless space. What reason do we have to believe it could happen anywhere else?

We spend so much time convincing ourselves we aren't special when maybe the complete opposite is true.
I dont think its about convincing ourselves we arent special, but wanting to know if we are unique.
We understand fully as evolved apes, our ability to understand the universe is quite ****ing incredible.
If we didnt think we were special, we wouldnt believe we were capable of discovering life hundreds or millions of light years away. We wouldnt even try.

Funny that people need to ridicule people who claim they saw flying saucers, when a lot of them would at the same time not deny the existence of other intelligent life out there. It's human nature I guess.

Life is undoubtedly a cosmic fluke, but like squeal said it's simply a numbers game.

With 400,000,000,000 stars in our galaxy... even if intelligent life evolved in 0.0000000001% of these solar systems that would mean there would be 40 intelligent civilizations in the milky way alone.

Edit: look up the drake equation, which I think estimates 10 intelligent life forms in the milky way.

Yeah it'd suck to miss that, actually. Our grand kids will be talking about how much we missed out on.

I believe there is planets out there with intelligent life forms.

In a Universe so unimaginably big..theres got to be IMO.

I'm presuming that the "UFO" is meant as a flying object that came from another planet, not just a general unidentified object.

So NO, I don't believe that they visited us or that any one of the sightings are legitimate. It's about as credible as Big Foot and Loch Ness sightings.

Why don't you believe it. It doesn't even seem far fetched, considering what we know about the universe today.

                      I've seen one before.

I was outside with 2 friends, granted we were drinking a couple of beers. I noticed a strange light, white/bluish light. I thought it was a plane at first but it made a very strange movement and was at tree level and also silent. It was diamond shaped and had a row of orange lights across the middle where the white/bluish light was. A red light at the top and bottom also.

It then made a very weird movement and disappeared. My friends and I were speechless for a couple of minutes.
