the numbers that result from accumulation and sustained ability to attract audiences are better criteria IMO... (boxoffice performance)
I tend to agree but Avengers is poised to be near the top of the all-time box office list as well when all is said and done. An from boxofficemojo speculates:

"Including the domestic opening, the movie has so far made $641.8 million worldwide. That tops all of the franchise's previous movies including former top entry Iron Man 2 ($624 million). It's a foregone conclusion at this point that The Avengers winds up with over $1 billion worldwide, and it could get as high as fourth on the all-time chart ahead of Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($1.12 billion). It's unlikely that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2's $1.33 billion is in reach, but crazier things have happened."

I just like seeing the numbers, especially opening weekend ones, it's kind of like seeing numbers for boxing PPVs. It's more of an event whereas the total box office numbers reflect a movie's overall popularity.

Never gonna happen, too many people own the property rights to each of these guys. Unless they all decide to play nice(doubt it), or only 1 or 2 own them I cant see this happening. I would love it tho.

politics is sickening... "the hobbit" too was almost not done because of politics...

but a live justice league movie would be awesome...
