jason wasn't timid. hetfield and ulrich purposely turned down the bass on all the songs on AJFA. it was done partly to haze the new guy, and partly as their immature way of mourning burton. newsted got screwed.

Burton is one of the greatest bass players ever.

Those where good albums. Not good by metal standards. But good as far as rock n roll. Im not the first to say I just dont care too much for kill em all. MoP and AJFA are the best and my favs.

i recall reading in an interview somewhere that billy sheehan of MR. BIG, a monster bass player himself, cites cliff as his influence...

idk, its close... BA was just pounded into our brains so much by MTV at the time.

Justice is still the GOAT IMO, with MoP a close 2nd

And Justice for All is so underrated by Metallica fans themselves, IMO. They were never better as far as songwriting.

I just don't get the hype over the Black Album. It's certainly good, but I just don't think it's that good. Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters are the two most overrated Metallica songs by a wide margin.

                      spot on...

great, great album... to me, its next to puppets and lightning...its the muted bass of "justice' that really bothers me though... imagine if cliff was still there... it would have blown master out of the water...

i like to compare it to terry norris the boxer...

the guy had everything... size, power, speed, footwork, skills and heart...

                      and that fragile chin...
