i wouldn't buy a car to "look fresh"


they're expensive as **** to buy and maintain


your age will determine how much your car will cost to insure, along with the value of the vehicle. used cars cost extra to insure, but almost always have lower premiums because of the lower price (a car is insured based on the price, if it takes more damage than that it's "totaled" [took more damage than the total value of the car])
the bulk of your car insurance is compulsory in most states, meaning it's there to cover anybody you might injure or damage other than yourself


once you hit 22-25ish the price of insuring your vehicle drops dramatically. don't worry too much about that if you're of age and driving a relatively inexpensive vehicle. probably no more than a grand a year with a good driving record and a vehicle with a low cost

what you want to consider when purchasing a vehicle:
application (where and for what purpose are you using it?) most people buy their cars for transportation, and most driving is done alone.
so if you don't live in the tundra, or work with a truckload of tools, you probably don't need a pickup truck that will cost you 100 bucks each week to drive around.
and if you don't have a family of screaming kids youdont need a minivan
if you live in an area with snow you BETTER have a car that works well in the snow (no rear wheel drive)


gas prices are not going back down
they may temporarily (say for six months, a year, two years,) but eventually they are going nowhere but up

i drive my car up to 500 miles each week in the winter (crazy, right?) for work
that's about a tank and a half of gas
i believe i have a 14 gallon tank and i get about 390 miles out of it
costs me over 60 bucks to fill

gas costs me more than my car payment, and i get great milage (about 30 on the highway)

you need a car that you can afford to own and maintain is what i'm trying to get at


i you have "5500" and don't have any more income on the way, you cannot spend 5500 in cash on your car

you'll end up selling it within the year and taking huge hit on it

I don't know anything about cars or what models to even look into.

I like 2004 Mazda RX8 but thats out of my league.

Been eyeing 98-01 Mitsubishi Eclipse, although I would change those gay ass stock spoilers down the line.

Problem with an Eclipse would be insurance would fist fuck me like no tommorow for being a 19 year old piece of shit.

But idk, all i know is Toyotas and Hondas are good for saving gas money.

Dude you need to buy something like a stock civic, and not some ricer POS some other kid beat the **** out of, they get great gas milage and are very reliable and will save you a ton of money, one of the worst things kids do is bury themselves with debt, be smart and keep it simple, also dont spend all 5grand on a car, you can pick up a nice civic for around 3500-4000grand and have some money left over just in case you get a flat or something breaks on the car !
