i agree with you. SonofCuba doesnt stop hating on this movie but its obvious its just to much for him. He should stick to watching movies like "Mall Cop" and "The Tooth fairy"

You only love the movie because Nolan worked with Heath Ledger who played the joker in the dark knight. You may recall Ledger played the "batty man" (gay guy) in ass *** mountain. Thats probably why you like Nolan because you know he worked with Ledger who was supposed to star in this movie.
Heath Ledger's Joker was overrated and didn't reflect the character of the Joker in any of the books. It was more of a generic psycho than the actual Joker. It certainly wasn't a good enough portrayal to be worth celebrating by going to the Olsen Twins' apartment and overdosing.

So that's a fail right there.

On top of all this, the movie was VERY geeky. If you want to enjoy a film about dreams i suggest everyone to watch Avatar.
Aha, so it was "geeky" because you didn't understand it and instead you suggest I watch something a bit easier to understand, like Pocahontas in space.

this movie was long and tedious. i couldn't wait for it to end.

among the many complaints i have, one is that dreams don't have set, mechanical rules.

"when you dream, time slows down by a factor of 2. when you dream within a dream, time slows down by a factor of 2 raised to the 4th. when you dream within a dream within a dream, time slows down by a factor of 2 raised to the 8"

        uhhh ok. *snooooore*

also the end, and the whole idea of his wife in general, seemed like it had a supernatural/religious/bull**** overtone.

movie was like a long video game to me. obviously, i didn't "get" the movie, but i didn't care enough to be bothered by that.

movies dealing with dreams/blurred reality that i liked:

        jacob's ladder
        mulholland drive
My understanding is that the subconscious mind actually uses a larger percentage of the human brain power hence thinking (expereincing) things in quicker sequences and giving a person the experience of a larger amount of time has elapsed than is true.

The movie attempts to assert that the deeper into the subconscious the amount of brain power used increases exponentially hence the sensation of time increases exponentially.

Very similar to the Matrix in that the subconscious mind is more open and powerful loaning itself to absorb data at exponentially quicker rates than someone would in real life.

Inception was awesome and incredibly well done. The first movie I have seen in a while which was a big budget movie with a good concept and dialogue.

The only problem I have with the movie is that the dreams even as ridiculous as they were, were way too sane. The last dream I had I was Iron Man and I was fighting God.

To be fair there's not really much not to get when 90% of the film is spent explaining everything that's going on through dialogue. Plus I found Nolan's vision of the mind and dreams too literal and rigid. Imo it's clear that his brother Jonathan is the more nuanced writer of the two and whenever he's involved in one of Chris' scripts they seem to be improved tenfold.

I find Inception quite similar to Avatar actually in it's pretensiousness and overestimation of itself. But also like Avatar, it's still an enjoyable blockbuster despite it's faults.

I wasn't made to care about any of the other characters. Too much expository dialogue, the girl perhaps being the worst of the bunch. She is supposed to represent us, the audience, asking questions, questions, how things work etc. But there is no depth to her. She is just a nuisance, a means to explore Leo's psyche.

The only character with any real depth is Leo's character. This can often be enough, and at times it was, but I think the movie missed an opportunity. I didn't care what happens to any of the supporting characters, they are just men in suits, just faces. I don't know what drives them. So I don't care what becomes of them.

I also said in another thread that The Matrix is a superior film. Great characters that you care about and you understand their motivations.

My conclusion is a great concept, but film too burdened by its set pieces, often missing chances to explore some real humanity.
I agree with this. Matrix 1 is a near perfect revolutionary movie. Too bad they attempted to retell Matrix 1 all over again by making Matrix 2-3.

I loathed Dark Knight but this was pure genius IMO. Everything was perfect.
yeah, I hated Dark Knight too.

but I'm not declaring this movie as being the greatest, its just the greatest movie for me. I do realize that everyone has their own opinion and there are plenty of movies that are worthy of being ranked higher. Its just ranked #1 on my list ATM.

But opinion or not, if you didn't think this movie was at least very good, then you need a brain transplant.

IMO, Matrix Reloaded is the best in that series. It was #1 on my all-time list until Inception.

Yeah it was a shame that they resorted to that ridiculous bit of "common knowledge" that we "only use 10% of our brains".
