In the end, they're both charities. One is administered under an accountable body that is forced to do something and the other is administered at the whim of some rich people who aren't held accountable in any meaningful way.
well then maybe you're reading the wrong stuff...

you trust bureauc**** to distribute money in a reasonable and efficient manner??

the thing about charities is, if you dont like how they are giving away your money, or that they are wasting it.. you dont give to them... but try and not "give" to govt

plus, charities can't decide to make laws to favor other groups or people in order to gain favor... all they can do is GIVE money they are GIVEN... whereas govt can squander and control with money they steal

they are not both charities.... one is done freely, the other is theft

None are free. One is sustained by donations and the other by taxes.

      Its still "other peoples money".

If I was someone in need, I'd prefer to get my food stamps, unemployment, WIC benefits etc from government rather than some random charities.

The government way is more timely, organized and larger in scope.

We can talk about whether this is even "ok" to do, but thats all academic rhetoric which the real world has no time for.

i said "freely" as in, people give to charities out of choice, the principle that America was founded upon

and if the govt way is more timely, organized and larger in scope, tell me what happened with Katrina... who was there first doing more, the govt or the Red Cross

and when you give to the Red Cross, 91 cents of every dollar actually goes to the people in need

do you believe that 91 cents of every tax dollar goes to the needy or even gets spent on goods or services, please, i would guess that at least 40 cents of every dollar goes to padding govt officials and special interest's pockets

Katrina was a random accident. Handing out benefits to people is a different story.

Besides, I really think Katrina was mishandled on purpose because the people in need were poor and black.

If that had taken place in Beverly Hills, FEMA would've shined that day.

will you say something like that about every situation that doesnt fit your outlook on things???

and besides, do you have an answer to the efficiency of the money aspect???

which would you rather donate to, one that you KNOW is 91% going to the needy or one that you have no idea where its going and most likely being used in a coercive or corruptive manner?

I'm not sure where that 91% number came from. The Red Cross is a political body. They helped the Bolsheviks overthrow the Romanovs back during the Russian Revolution so where does that leave us?

As for "my outlook"...you brought up Katrina and I answered you.

That was a class issue, as most things are.
