Ok from experience:
I think the military is a good thing for most people that need a little bit of direction in their lives. From all the 5 braches of the DOD in my opinion the one that is most ******* and compatible wih jobs in the civilian world is the Air Force.
If I had the oporunity to go back and do things all over again, I would have selected the Air Force. Don't take me wrong I'm proud and glad that I went to the USMC, but just for life long opportunities and skills leaerned I would go with the Air Force.
For a female the Navy is not that bad since they will mostlikely not go on float for extended periods of time. The public and politicians are not ready to have 5 women in a boat of 1000 men. I bet some women would love those odds.
So MCM do not be frustrated, discurraged, or disaapointed that she wants to go in the military. It might be a good thing for her. I've seen people turn thier lives around 180 degrees when they go into the military. This is something that you might want to encurage in your son too.

I was just surprised by her thoughts of joining the military as she has vehemently refused to consider it for the last 2 years. I think that the reason she's considering it is because we cut her off on her college payments. We paid for her first year and she not once has she applied for any type of scholarship, grant or any other financial aid. So we said if she wasn't going to help herself, we weren't either. Her bf doesn't want her to.
She's considering the Navy because she wants to go into the nursing field. If she does this, I wonder if she'll aim higher and go for doctor? Hmm...
Daniel wants to go into the Marine Corp. Has ever since his uncle was in it. We'll see if it happens. Unfortunately, he has a history of a traumatic brain injury as a child and my neighbor (who was in the USMC) said that it might affect him getting in. :-( We'll find out in a few years.
