Getting hurt is getting hurt, I understand your point of there being worse places and in that I agree 100%. The reality though is, you can get just as easily killed in the U.S than you can in any place in the world if the wrong situation arises.

You being 250 and covered with tattoos means nothing. Where I am from, that will get you even more singled out because people like to prey on the strong. If you "look" like a tough guy, there are people that will want to try you and believe me they will.

I know now at my age that your life is more important than any material items.
