Norman Milton Lear (born July 27, 1922) is an American screenwriter and producer who has produced, written, created or developed over 100 shows. Lear is known for creating and producing numerous popular 1970s , including (1971–1979), (1972–1978), (1972–1977), (1975–1984), (1975–1984), and (1974–1979). He has continued to actively produce television, including the and the revival of Good Times in 2022.
Lear has received many awards, including six , two , the in 1999, the in 2017, and the in 2021. He is a member of the .
Lear is also known for his political activism and funding of and causes and politicians. In 1980, he founded the advocacy organization to counter the influence of the in politics, and in the early 2000s, he mounted a tour with a copy of the .
