Crime is escalating so badly that the NY mayor feels the uncontrollable crime on the streets is even more dangerous than catching COVID. Shoplifting and looting is so bad they want customers to remove their masks upon entering stores now. Prior to COVID I recall a lot of convenience stores had signs on their door that you could NOT enter wearing a mask for this purpose.
What's odd, is that even if they can identify a shoplifter, they don't arrest them anyway? Or they are let go without bail.
