    Another Covid vaccine victim

I should have titled that. "Covid shot", not Covid vaccine.
An Okanagan man who says he is paralyzed because of the COVID-19 vaccine has been approved compensation from the federal vaccine injury support program.

Yea, I never got the shot and happy I didn't. I wanted to wait to see if it did more good than harm.

I was going to stay out of this topic until I saw this reply.

No its not like any other vaccine. Does it stop you from getting covid? Does it stop you from spreading it? Are the side effects massive?

Why did they change the definition of "vaccines" after this covid "vaccine" came out? You still can't admit you got played. But by all means, get more boosters. You're a adult, you can make adult decisions right?

as with every other vaccine, people have different reactions, people have died from every vaccine invented while others had no effects.....more boosters? i have had 0 boosters so stop generalizing..people have their own views on everything and i can respect that but nothing is all negative and nothing is all positive

Other vaccines do not absolutely prevent you from getting disease and never did - I've previously shown you lists of the effectiveness of different vaccines in the current childhood and adult schedules. Some are in the high 90% others are in the low 90s, some are only in 70% range of effectiveness like COVID vaccines. Most vaccines also wane in effectiveness over time. I've shown you that data too.

Do I really need to pull it all up again?

And yes, not getting a symptomatic infection or getting a less serious one did very much reduce transmission especially with the original variants for which the vaccines were designed. Against later variants - especially Omicron - thereduction in transmssability was marginal but by that time the issue was largely moot because almost everyone had natural immunity or was already vaccinated (or both by that time) so the consequences of infection were likely to be less severe.

The question is did COVID Vaccines overall prevent more health damage than they caused and the answer is an unequivocal yes by any metric you choose to use... and not by just a little bit, but overwhelmingly so. The only groups in which the individual benefits were relative small or close to even with the risks were the very young.

Furthermore what seems to be overwhelmingly - and wilfullly ignoried - when looking at the question of vaccine side effects are a comparison with the risks of getting COVID itself which includes all the risks associuated with vaccine damage, more or less, but at a much higher probability.

They changed the definition of 'vaccines' on the CDC website precisely because the spreaders of vaccine scepticism were using the difference between the scientific and medical definition of the term 'immunity' and the common colloquial use of the same word to spread doubt and uncertainty about COVID vaccines.

In medical terms immunity never implied 100% protection merely that the bodies immune system had been previously activated against a particular pathogen - whether by previous infection or by vaccination - the common public use of the term (as in 'immunity from prosecution) suggests absolute protection which has never been the case with vaccination - or indeed naturally acquired immunity.

The vaccine reduces the likelihood of you getting ill or if you do get ill makes increases the probability that the illness will be mild and non life-threatening.

It does so by activating the bodies own immune system in a similar way to getting infected would. Functionally that is what all vaccines are - a hack to trick your body into thinking it's already been infected by a disease and prepare it for future infection.

Should we start a thread each time someone gets seriously ill or dies from COVID?
