no, we arent in the damn cold war (or we werent anyway) do you really think *****s ringing up johnson/macron saying you know what lets invade russia whilst our economies are ****ed from a pandemic. ukraine arent even a member of NATO i dont understand where this bull**** was coming from about 'russia dont want NATO on their borders' that would make sense if they were just about to enter but as far as im aware they havent been allowed to despite wanting.

There's been ongoing discussions over the last year - in fact over the last decade ot more in total - about em joining, and it seems like the only reason they weren't was become some of the European member states weren't happy about it (for the obvious reasons of regional stability) and the problems associated with the ongoing terrtorial dispute with Russia.

Seems like what's directly precipated this crisis is - amongst other **** - the explicit statement of intent to pursue a roadmap to entering NATO and the explicit designation of Russia as an aggressive hostile power. Their 2020/1 National Security Strategy pretty clearly lays out their intent:





A bit more analysis here... essentially the Ukraines 2020 NSS was acommitment to remilitarising their country and bringing spending upto NATO standard levels plus a commitment to starting an integration process to bring Ukrainian forces into line with NATO command structures and logistics.

Russia has direct access to Poland via an isolated territory front the Baltic Sea.

Thanks for pointing out that Russia has no direct border with Poland, and that it has a great amount of a buffer zone between the two countries.
