The weird thing about CNN's article is they provide a valid explanation as to why he said what he said:

Asians are only “people of color” when they are ******** or serve a useful purpose to ********. Otherwise they are seen as privileged, which is why many of them cannot get into Ivy League schools, apparently they are too educated and have an unfair advantage. They need to dumb down standards to get a more diverse and equitable range of students.
