It is a shame he never got a ring. The supposedly greatest of all time and not getting a ring?

I remember thinking maybe in 2002 it was good they didn't win it since there was the steroids and I wanted the Giants to win it cleanly(eventually did in 2010,12,14) but then I said other teams that won it had steroids too so how would that have been any different if the Giants won it in 2002.

Just think of how many more homeruns he would've had if they didn't walk him so many times. In 2002 he was walked 198 times(a record) and in 2004 he broke his own record with 232 walks(120 of that were intentional too-I also remember a lot of times pitchers threw 4 totally out of the strike zone pitches in a row, the "unintentional" intentional walk).

Barry gets a bad rap imo. People always talk about the juicing, but if people actually look at his career numbers objectively, he was largely consistent. His 73 homerun season was an anomaly. The only thing the juicing really did for him was probably extend his career a few years. The dudes numbers across the board are staggering and people need to put respect on his name.

The guy started using steroids in 98. In 96(no steroids), he put up a 40/40 season (42 hr and 40 steals). The only people on that list are Bonds, Canseco, Rodriguez, and Soriano. Those 3 all used steroids, yet Bonds was able to do a 40/40 season while not on steroids.

Yet even with a 40/40 season, it was getting eclipsed by steroid takers like Sosa/McGuire. Bonds took steroids in 98, and we saw what happened at his peak in 2001. In 98 he had 37 hr, and in 99 had 34(with less games played), and in 2000 a career best with 49. 2001 was after 3 years of steroid use and hard training in the gym and pitchers actually pitching to him, which he got 73. In 2002, he still got 46 home runs even with a record breaking 198 walks. Take those walks as actual pitchers going after him and maybe he gets 80. In 2004 he still got 45 even with 232 walks. No one has ever done this.

Mays was the greatest, but this Bonds with steroids, takes the throne.

Yes he was a monster. Point I guess I'm really trying to make is people put to much into the strength aspect of hitting homeruns, when it is really about technique and generating bat speed. You don't have to be a big strong dude to hit home runs. Griffey Jr. is a perfect example of that. Also totally forgot about him being walked 232 times, just omfg that is crazy. That is the other thing people overlook and just attribute to him being juiced and pitchers not wanting to pitch to him, but he was almost always above 100 walks with the Pirates, peaking at 151 in 96. His eye and patience are unparalleled imo.

Yep...the walks and OBP were incredible as well. Was hoping he would hit .400 one of those years
