They make planes that fly themselves now. Where a pilot's skills come in is during landings and if there is a need to improvise when something goes wrong (Sully NYC). Airlines used to pursue military pilots for that purpose, they were trained to handle tricky landings and adverse conditions.

The standards for jobs across the board have been lowered in order to even the playing field for people who are unable to compete intellectually or physically. Dumb down tests, make physical standards easier etc. Cops, military, fire departments have all been subjected to the PC affirmative action agenda.
