4-3-3 - You need:

Two fast wide players who attack the ball in the box when it is crossed in, an orthodox non bull**** striker (Rooney can be bull**** and drop too deep - no 9 or get the fuck out), a box to box midfielder who will break from deep, a combative, destructive midfield player, an all round midfielder who can pass. Two proper centre backs who can talk, two full backs that can get forward.

England has all that though.

Wilshere - Milner - Carrick(c)
Baines - Cahill - Smalling - Walker
Hart

Some aren't appealing like Milner and perhaps Jay Rodriguez but they fit the bill.
Milner keeps getting shuttled wide when I believe he has the tools to be a good stopper.
Rodriguez did all of that you mentioned under pocchettino whose system pressed and attacked on the break for 100 mins straight.
Welbeck is a no bullsht striker who should play up top and not wide. (Treated very much like Cavani)

Smalling is awful. Every other game he gets ragdolled and is at fault for a goal. He needs to be sent back to Maidstone Utd and kept well clear of the England squad.

Once Van Gaal kicks him to the curb, England will not feel obliged to select him for the squad.

Jagielka is trash but he is still superior to C. Smalling. I would personally have knocked on John Terrys door and dragged him on the plane to Brazil if I was Hodgson.

Caulker
Cahill
Jagielka
Lescott
Jones
Shawcross
Dawson

Hell I would even pull Ledley King out of his hospital bed and throw that cripple into my team to prevent Smalling getting on to the pitch.

2016 Dawson and lescott aren't even viable options. I don't rate Dawson, while lescott is inconsistent.

Anyways, Welbeck is a no bullsht striker. Either way, Sturridge should be picked and used IMO but just listing a no bullsht striker then Welbeck is fine. Sturridge bullshts sometimes. Rooney should be nothing more than a super sub.
