Messi will be 30 by the next World Cup so this looks like his best chance to shine in one.
They have Garay, Zabaleta, Otamendi, and even Campagnaro in defense. The first three being legit defenders and the last being a vet serie a defender.

They got Pastore, Mascherano, banega, and Ricardo Alvarez in midfield. Of the the four only Alvarez is sketchy. The other three are quality at club level.

Messi has no excuse. He's not playing on a squad where his best midfielder is john obi mikel. Or Scott Parker.

I never said he was. That squad is **** though compared to say Germany or Spain.

Messi will choke again because he doesn't have Xavi and Iniesta there to do all the leg work for him. One of the most overrated players I've ever seen. Looks world class smashing goals past cab drivers and fishermen, but when the pressure is on and it's time to step up he goes missing.
Like in the 09 and 2011 Champions League Finals?

This might be Messi's last world cup. Who knows, that HGH might kill him by next year.

I firmly believe he should be stripped of all his awards. He's an unnatural athlete. A cheater shouldn't get praised.

                Football is behind the times..

Only in football would a known drug user like Messi be allowed to play.. not only play but be celebrated world wide..

So glad my boy Ronaldo has slapped that little phaggot back down to were he belongs..

He plays in a team where Di Maria is the best midfielder, who isn't actually a midfielder in the first place.

I can tell you haven't seen much of Pastore or Banega recently.

The PSG fans want Pastore out because of how **** he's been in the past couple of years. Banega has been shipped off back to South America, he's shot to **** and doesn't even play as a CM anymore.

Mascherano hasn't played in midfield at club level in about 3 years.

Argentina shouldn't even be among the favourites given their record in previous tournaments and the quality of their squad. In fact, take out Messi and there genuinely isn't much difference in depth or quality between Argentina and England's squad for my money. Take into account this is a squad that everyone in England expects virtually nothing from.

Aside from Messi taking the game over by himself, can someone actually break down how Argentina would go about beating someone like Spain in the knockouts? I don't see any way they would outscore them, and they definitely wouldn't keep a clean sheet against them.

The world cup being held in South America is the only valid reason I'd accept for putting Argentina in the top 3 favourites to win it.

I predict them to try and shoehorn as many big names into their team as possible (as usual) and end up crumbling again at about the quarter final stage. Maybe they'll shock me with it being in favourable conditions for them but I doubt it.

That won't happen and the above isn't a valid reason. European teams are going to tear up this world cup. Brazil and Argentina aren't doing shit.
