I think the player that has the best individual year should win. Which has been Messi. Until someone individually outperforms him over a calendar year, then he deservedly wins it. This isn't the man of the match award for an under 9s team that gets given to the player that never wins it cos we feel sorry for him.

You think the player that happens to play for the best team should win. Which basically means that only players from about 3 clubs can win an award based on individual merit.

Was Ribery that great this calendar year? I am not saying he wasn't.

But I don't really watch any of the Bundesliga and it was Arjen Robben who was more instrumental in them winning the Champions' League.

I have always thought Robben was pretty **** hot.

He's still probably the best player I have ever seen play for Chelsea. His first 6 months for Chelsea before he broke his foot - extraordinary. Chelsea fans will always say Zola or if theyre older Osgood but I think they're just being a bit nostalgic.

But for me Robben was incredible and such an exciting player and in his first 6 months he was unplayable and I actually think he has legitimately improved since then.

You have Messi and Ronaldo out by themselves but I personally would have Robben as the third best attacking midfielder/winger in the world. He is just such a clever player.

The term 'bottler' has been rightfully levelled at him in the past though but he redeemed himself by winning the CL for Bayern.
