Lets face it Man United are a very good team.. probably the 2nd best in the world right now. But Barca are just leagues ahead of them.. it sucks cause even though this United team is not great it could have cleaned up if Barca were not around.
For the first time in a while we have a team which looks set to dominate Europe like Madrid/Pool/Ajax did. I felt dejected last night.. i don't know how at 70 Fergie can pick himself up and go at it again.. Barca will be around for 3-4 more years
On the Carrick debate.. my feelings have always been he is not good enough to play for United.. was he the worse player last night? nope
But just compare his pass accuracy to say xavi/Inestia..
His was 79-80 percent playing only 35 passes.. Xavi was 95 percent but he played 145.. more then a 100 more. Carrick should be controlling the game for United in the position he is in but he just does not have the ability.
When Scholes came on i thought we improved dramatically.. I'd like too see a Sniedjer/Modric come in and replace Carrick and play alongside Fletcher.. I am so gutted Hargreaves career has been ****ed over he is just the kinda player you need vs BarcaLast edited by DUCK FACE; 05-29-2011, 02:10 PM.

Barca have only lost 4 times this year.. it seems.. says a lot..
One of those was vs Arsenal.. who did attack nicely on the break... i have no idea what it is with Barca and the Emirates though. They dominate the first half score and then seem to sleep and let Arsenal back in
Can anyone remember a team playing without a CF before and doing so well? Vidic/Ferdinand played well in my view despite letting 3 past. There is only so much you can do when the midfield let the likes of Messi/Xavi run at you.. while Pedro/Villa are making great runs splitting you

You weight that up for what is though, Scholes played okay, but also had more time and space than Carrick had. Barca have a tendency to sit off you when their infront, they did it against Arsenal, and Arsenal got back in the game cause of it.

Yep and it was 3-1.. In hindsight i feel we should have gone with the likes of Scholes/Berbatov/Nani.. guys who are technically skillful able to play quickly and also hold onto the ball. You need the right blend though.. last night we went full out with workers and i didn't work
Put the likes of Wilshire/Cesc into the United team and it could have been a different game.. i was very impressed with Wilshire in the first leg. He is the type of player we lack right now.. what with Scholes being on his last legs

Btw i saw on SKY Arsenal old team destroy a GOOD Leeds side 5-0 (henry hatrick). I feel that team is a bit overated in terms it never retained the title or dominated europe. BUT in that year they were playing amazing how do you see them matching up vs Barca in a one of game or over 2 legs.

Tbf, i thought Carrick done alright last night.
For sure there were worse players out there, Evra for all goals, VDS for the 2nd goal, Valencia didn't provide a threat and not sure what Park contributed.
Carrick and Giggs just got outnumbered in the middle, Messi would drop so deep and Vidic and Rio couldn't follow him. Any other team and it wouldn't be a problem because having the ball that far away from goal isn't dangerous. But they move the ball so fast, they can be behind the back four from the halfway line within a few first time passes.
It was an error on Fergies part tbh. Mourinho played an extra DM to follow Messi instead of a striker which helped. Wenger, i don't know if it was an intentional ploy, played a high line, so the CBs were closer to Messi even when he dropped.

Two things you MUST do against Barca....
*Congest the midfield*
*Play with two strikers
Whilst Rooney played was supposed to be playing as striker, he needed to play closer to Hernandez, to present more of a two pronged attack imo, cause coming too deep, leaves too many men behind the ball when you get it back.
The system to combat 4-3-3, is 3-5-2 imo.
Barca are strongest down the middle of the pitch, so to negate that, you have to congest the middle of the pitch, now it will still not be easy, cause whether you have a DMF infront of your center-halves protecting them or not, you still need your fullbacks to tuck in to narrow the center of the pitch, problem with that is, people like Alves start bombing on when Barca cant get any joy down the middle, so your fullback is having to do two jobs if your playing with a flat back four, cause he's having to tuck to help helps his CB narrow the middle of the pitch, but also being dragged out wide to deal with the wingback(Alves), now this is where 3-5-2 comes into play, if you have 3 CB's, instead of two, your fullbacks dont have to tuck in and help out as much, and you will still have a DMF infront of those CB's breaking up the play, therefore, the fullback can actually concentrate on doing his job, defending whats coming down his side, now once you've negated their attack somewhat, and want to think offensively, you tell your two strikers to break into the channels, the space that the likes of Alves has vacated, that way you can exploit the fact they have so many men caught up-field out of position.
In midfield...
You either play with a two DMF's, and an AMF infront of him, or you play one DMF, and play two AMF/CMF infront him. I just dont know which, cause one DMF might not be enough defensively, then again, you dont want to many men caught behind the ball when its time to break, one thing that might be essential though, is that you have a creative number 10/8 axis to your team, someone operating just behind the two strikers who can release them when you win the ball, someone who can play that ball into the channel etc.Last edited by Dynamite Kid; 05-29-2011, 02:50 PM.
