Silly challenge yes, but born out of frustration at a horrifically biased performance from the ref. I have watched it several times. He doesn't touch Varney and wins the ball cleanly. In my Sunday league team that is simply a good challenge and everyone carries on, but I suppose in modern day Premierleague football it is a sending off for "intent" alone.

As for the pen: what is Ibanez supposed to do?? Cheating Campbell runs into him and falls over, it is obstruction if anything. As for the sending off...eurghhh.

They were hanging on against 9 men - that should be a major worry for all Blackpool fans.
