      maybe some good news.................just maybe

      New takeover interest in Reds

Keith Harris claims an overseas buyer has completed due diligence for a potential takeover at Liverpool and is now considering an offer between ?00million and ?00million.

Liverpool are attracting global interest in the quest to secure new owners to replace American duo George Gillett and Tom Hicks at Anfield.

Several possible buy-outs have fallen by the wayside, but there could be fresh hope for Liverpool in the form of a previously unpublicised party.

Harris, who has had a hand in the sales of Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester City in the past, said due diligence has already been done.
      Impossible to predict

"The overseas buyer we represent has completed due diligence. A huge amount of work has been done," he said.

"It is none of the groups mentioned in the press. The ball is now in our client's court to make an offer.

"I do not think the deal will be done before the transfer window closes this month, but the next pressure point is October when some of the RBS loan of ?37million has to be repaid.

"It may happen then. But in the present climate these things are impossible to predict."

Last week Hong Kong-based businessman Kenny Huang - whose interest was allied to the Chinese government - pulled out of the bidding process, while Syrian-Canadian Yahya Kirdi's much-publicised interest has been treated with scepticism.

Harris said history has taught him that those who went public before an agreement had been reached rarely succeeded.

"The Chinese government involvement was always a bit far-fetched," he told the London Evening Standard.

"In any takeover situation, when people resort to announcing it to the media, you have to question the seriousness of the offer.

"If the name of the prospective buyer comes out before the deal is done then probably it is never going to be done.

"Look at when Chelsea was sold in 2003. My firm was advising the club and we only knew of Roman Abramovich on the Thursday before the deal was completed the following Tuesday."

Luis Garcia was worth keeping imo, i mean fair play he was a bit lightweight, a bit inconsistent at times, but he could score the odd goal, and had a bit of creativity, plus, its not like Pool were going to get a huge fee for him. I still remember his goal against, Juve i think it was, what a goal.

Cisse was rubbish imo, never rated him, however selling Alonso was pure ******ity, i know he wanted to go in the end, but i think that was cause of all the Barry talk, it was as though Rafa did not rate Alonso anymore.

Well when you put it like that, yeah, would take Cisse over him.

Alonso was, still is, one of my favourite midfield players, i always thought he was way better than Barry, and could not understand why Rafa seemed to prefer Barry, i was buzzing when Arsenal were linked with him.

then again i think lucas is the ****test midfielder in prem league,i cant believe any manger actually picks that ****
Makes the decision to let Aquilani go out on loan even more baffaling.

Lucas is alot like Denilson for Arsenal, decent squad players. IMO they should never start big games but against the **** clubs sometimes you need that player who keeps possession and recycles the ball.

He was hung out to dry last night by Woy in fairness. Having him next to Gerrard who was more concerned about bombing forward left Lucas 3 vs 1 in the middle.

Fulham have confirmed the signing of Algerian defender Rafik Halliche from Benfica for an undisclosed fee.

Can someone tell me why some managers restrict themselves to buying from one nationality/league. Wenger buys almost exclusively French/Ligue 1 players with a few exceptions, Rafa always bought Spanish/La Liga players. Ferguson recently has been taking tips from former United coach Carlos Quieroz because of the amount of players from the Portugese league we have bought (Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson, Bebe).

It's got to be something to do with their nationality obviously but is it their stubborness or do they think they know things people don't with their transfer buys because of their nationality and contacts back in their home country?

Anderson is Brazilian actually but yeah I get your point. When it comes to Wenger, I think he likes French players because A) the French league is considered to be on par with the Premier league in terms of physicality so players can adapt easily to the league, and B) he's French.
